The Triumph Of The West - Or . . More Coding ****-ups from Redmond - OneNote 2016

Featured Replies

Decided to give the little "Office Update" Icon that recently appeared in the Desktop menu bar,  next to the invitation to  MS Windows 10,  a try.

So I clicked and it installed.

The load and install completed fine.

But when I went to use Onenote 2016, which it appears is the only application from the Office Suite to be updated,  I found that the Notebook overall sync function (Accessed thru the File menu)  wouldn't work and spat out an  error message :-

"We're sorry, something went wrong during sync. We'll try again later. (Error code: 0xE4020017)"

Switching to manual sync didn't change things.

Through trial and error, I have found individual folders will sync the entire folder contents, without error message, as long as you click and load the first and last  entries.

Clearly, this is long and tedious and unacceptable in the long-term.

Anybody else have experience of this ? Is there a solution.?

you could try staying away from the internet for a while and see if that sorts the problem. HTH :)

First world problems, eh

Hang on. Wouldn't I have to live in South Korea to experience the First World  . . in internet terms ?

That is probably your problem, it only works correctly in the Korean version.

GG, are you psychic or what ?

I have just solved the sync problem.

Part of it was that the geniuses at MS had delivered the US - default keyboard version to my desktop - this may have occurred because I have a .Com E-mail address with MS.  So, I presume date formats and things like that were being banjaxed. So when I deleted US keyboard entry in set-up and made sure everything else in the set-up was UK default, deleted the Notebook 2016 software in control panel and did a system re-start followed by a re-download, re-install  and re-start of Notebook 2016, the sync error message then changed and highlighted one further (Underlying ? ) problem with just one page in my personal notebook. The page entry, which was blank, wouldn't refresh from local sources or download from the Onedrive server, so I just deleted the page entry in the folder and re-loaded from another source. Sync error message disappeared. Jobs a good'un.

It also seems that the sync error message was in itself erroneous as all the other pages in the database were up to date before I started deleting.

So beware, just one  defective page out of a couple of hundred can screw it
