And if you want to do it properly, ie primer, colour and lacquer then it will cost at least tripple that per wheel.

Are you suggesting needing to use 3 cans per wheel? Primer, Colour, Lacquer.

that is a bit excessive do you not think?

£15 for the 3 different cans if you go to 'Home Bargains' say.

or just get the 'PlastiKote Gloss Super'.

& that does 5 wheels.

(but actually if you just want gloss black, (lacquer not required) with preparation then you can change Gigaros without Etch or Primer, even Dark Chromes,

I did 8 of them this week., £5 total, and to a very good standard.)

My fear with that though would be the thickness of the coats of paint. Yes, you might be able to cover them with that much paint at a pinch but how resilient will they be to all the things that wheels get subjected to? Personally I'd rather give them a good coat and do them once than have to keep coming back to them.

I am not really into driving around with crap half painted wheels.

I can spray with a compressor and gun when i need to, rattle cans can do as good a finish when you have a clue what you are doing.

I was (still am really) a time served Spray Painter, (i still paint vehicles.) you kind of learn what is needed, it is why people serve their time and train to do the job,

and more is not always better, quality of the work is.

and what you do is spray appropriately and too much paint (thick) often means more prone to chipping.

So you prepare, de-grease, de-wax. you key a surface, etch or key as required, prime or filler prime if required, sand and key, and then protect, enough colour coat is what is required.

So a good coat is a good long lasting finish, protected, and that does not always mean more and more coats, what products you use are what should lead you.

You need to be able to put on and off tyres and not have crap edges with paint just coming away, and you are not spraying think paint into bolt seats.
