Mercedes radar-braking thing

Featured Replies

Remember the clip from TG where it totally failed to brake??

interesting developments HERE

Double bluff maybe?

anyway.. the full vid is HERE - its in german tho.. but is worth a watch for the carnage :D

I don't for a minute believe that a company the size of Mercedes would be pressured into doing a demo for something that they didn't think would work fine.

This sounds very much like an attempt to shift the blame when it all went pear shaped

love the ..... *crash - beep beep - shizer!* bit!!

the guys got sacked for doing that....mercedese knew nothign about it and the system wasnt ready for a test so merc are now doing a law suit thingy and there not impressed at all...they were set up to run over a plank of wood to tell them to break before they hit the car...and well because of the air suspension they didnt feel the bump! and so they didnt know when to break.

Nice little tale, cheers L-Y-K

Looking back on the TG clip, it did seem a little odd. Especially because many of the S-Class gadgets are actually very good, work properly and eventually filter down to 'normal' cars (ABS, airbags etc). Even then, still not sure about this system. They'll have automated steering in the next one, so you just have to climb in, set the destination on sat-nav and read a book!:rofl:

Steve

eventually filter down to 'normal' cars (ABS, airbags etc).

not trying to be funny but ABS has been around for decades :)

not a mercedes thing ;)

infact i think the ford granada was the first poduction car to have it fitted accross the range as standard :)

Fair enough, but was pretty sure that it appeared properly, in its present form, in the S-Class around 1985? Developed between M-B and Bosch?

The Granada may well have been the first model to have it across a range, but it's where it appeared first that I was more pointing to.

Steve

you sure, sure my mate said his dads jenson had ABS.

then again, i cold easily be wrong.

the 1985 MK3 Granada was the first car to have it fitted as standard accross therange but it first appeared in the 1960s in the Ferguson P99 racing car but was first deloped for air planes.

think we are going slightly off topic now :o
