Mirror Link saga continues

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a pre reg Fabia from Skoda's approved used car fleet- one previous owner Skoda UK, less than 20 miles on the clock. and discovered it was built pre week 22 hence Mirror link not Smart link.

Asked Skoda UK whether they would consider fitting the Kenwood sat nav system as they have done for other people and the reply was as it's a used car no deal

Has anyone with a pre reg car had the Kenwood fitted FOC?.

I think you'll need a star in the east and three wise men before that happens. What's in it for Skoda or the dealer?

I would tend to agree with alltorque. Skoda have never fitted Kenwood's because they saw Mirrorlink as 'not fit for purpose', but in recognition for those who were missold the car from new. Presumably your salesman didn't mislead you as it's such a well known issue now, so you can't use that argument!

I agree also.

It all hangs on what you were told when you purchased. If you asked about Mirrorlink and were told something not to be true, then you have a case.

If Mirrorlink was not mentioned, then i'm afraid you are probably stuck.

Interesting to note that there is still a backlog of pre week 22 cars with very low (new) mileage being cleared by Skoda.

You would have thought you were fairly safe getting a post week 22 car by now, but it seems that's not always the case.

I bought a pre-reg Fabia late into this year that is clearly pre-week 22. To be honest I'm not that fussed about Mirrorlink/Smartlink though when concluding the purchase the Salesman, when quizzed, on the topic mumbled about "some phones are, some phones aren't" and feigned a general lack of knowledge on the topic.

Quite clearly the pre-week 22 issue was known by Skoda UK and one supposes it should have been properly communicated in a bulletin to Dealers so they could at least be honest amd upfront with potential purchasers.

Of course at the time of purchase many of these things rely on a "in good faith" conversation with the Salesperson and realistically how likely would you ever be to get anything in writing?

Thanks for your comments guys.

My gripe is that when I was sold the car no mention was made of Mirrorlink/Smartlink and I only found out when I looked on this site. The sales guy asked what type of phone I had  (its a Moto E) and

never really commented either way . Usually I am like a dog with a bone on things like this but me thinks I have two hopes- no hope and Bob Hope.

Incidentally CS at Skoda got the dealer to ring me and tell me they did not have the decency to reply to my e-mail.

This sounds the same as my car, an SEL 110 ex show room car I picked up a couple of weeks ago with only 18 miles on the clock. Yes is was a tad anoying to realise it was 'only' Mirrorlink' after the deal. I have a Galaxy Note 4 phone that supports it though. I paid for the Sygic Car navigation app on offer ~£50 (note the 'Car Navigation' bit, the standard app does not export the screen to the car). It seams to work well with mirrorlink on my car. Sat nav would be the only app I'd use I think on screen.

It would be good if Skoda would provide an upgrade path for pre wk 22 cars though.

I have a pre week 22 Fabia purchased in April It would be good if Skoda published a list of phones that actually work with Mirrorlink. The last time I looked at skodas list of suggested phones you had to look at each phones list of options most of them had red spots against anything related to Mirrorlink. I was lucky and updated my phone to a Samsung Galaxy S4mini GT-19195 which by chance worked with Mirrorlink and the Sygic map. It was a member in Denmark who told me the phone would work with Mirrorlink so that was an unexpected bonus. Joe

Joe, could you tell me what Sygic version do you have? Sygic Car Navigation 15.0.0?

I have S4 mini i9195 too, I've installed Sygic but when I go to settings -> Mirrorlink I see Sygic and below "no certificate", when I press update cert nothing happens.

Phone connects with my bolero radio fine, but when I move my car the Sygic app switch off and inform me that I can't use it while driving.

I've Sygin 7 days full version testing. I didn't byu it yet. Did you test Sygic while driving?

Did you buy full version or checked it in 7days testing version?. Tom
