DSG

Featured Replies

Hi all

Is it right the superb DSG 190 has a dry clutch as opposed to the wet DSG in the 150? As per the Superb performance & engines section on the Skoda website.

Thought I saw some reliability issues with the dry one.

Is the 190 still six speed?

Thanks

To add, Superb brochure says 190 DSG is 6spd wet but the Skoda site says 7spd dry.....

The 2.0 diesels are 6 speed wet whatever output along with the 2.0 petrols. The 1.6 diesel and 1.4 petrol are 7 speed dry. The latter has a 250NM limit that is well surpassed by the bigger diesels.

The surprise for me was that the 1.8T petrol (that Europe gets but we don't) still uses the 7.

No idea about reliability I'm afraid but I am intrigued. Hard to tell from the various VAG forums. Reading between the lines I think some of it is down to understanding how it works and not treating it like a torque converter (e.g. Holding on hills on the clutch etc)

P.s. There are multiple errors on both website technical details (as you've highlighted) plus the brochure (e.g. Hatch 1.6 diesel DSG 0-60 time). It's pretty poor to be honest as it suggests there's little care and review on the part of Skoda UK before things are published...

The high torque 7 Speed dry clutch is for longitudinal applications, not transverse, new A4 has it with 2.0 150 and 190, plus 2.0 Petrol plus 218 3.0, not but 272 3.0. that is 8 Speed torque converter.

That one (I think the DQ500/501) is wet clutch too.  It's only the DQ200/low torque gearbox that uses dry plates.

Apologies, that box is indeed wet clutch. Was sure I read it was dry, maybe the two separate lubrication systems caused the confusion.
