Ringing 1.4tsi

Featured Replies

Very impressed with my L & K 1.4tsi, the engine especially. However now and then I get a ringing sound [like a mobile phone in the distance] from the engine bay. Only happens when rolling along in gear or revving in neutral, and not related to road speed. Cannot replicate by revving at a standstill. Can wait until first service to fix - any ideas anyone?

Sounds like something loosely attached to or touching the exhaust system.

The engine rotates in one direction and the torque causes the engine to twist in the opposite direction which can make the exhaust flex and touch bodywork etc.

If you can get under and 'see' where that would be and tap with a rubber mallet/fist also, and anything lose tends to show up.

Or you could answer the phone)))))

Symptoms sound similar to mine, 1.2, apart from when it happens it is engine speed in gear or out, clutch in or out. Dealer has had it a total of 5 days and spent over 12 hrs on it, can hear the noise but not trace it. Currently it is not happening but you know what saying that means will happen tomorrow :(

Lose muffler baffle, or bracket perhaps.

I had similar ringing on my 1.2 but only when the car was tilted at an angle of about 15 degrees. They deduced a clutch part problem so replaced it (5500 miles)....noise now gone (13000 miles).

Pehar...how many miles you done. Park it with drivers side up on kerb and see if that noise is back.
