Canon printer ?

Featured Replies

Well our 12 year old Canon printer has just given up ,we have been well pleased with it so thinking about replacing it with another Canon the Pixma MX475 which seems cheap and cheerful and the speck seems reasonable for the price.

It will be home use only, photos mainly few spread sheets nothing heavy.

Anyone got one or had any issues with this model or any other strong recommandations ?

Thanks in advance

SWMBO has one, the only issue we have had is it regularly decides it has to print black only text with the colour cart; since she only uses it to print address labels (with black text), she shouldnt even NEED a colour cart, but it refuses to work without one fitted.

My Epson does the same. If any of the cartrigdes are empty, it wont print anything. Quite silly.

Not entirely certain what you mean; is it deciding to print "composite black" despite possessing a Key cartridge?

The Canon inkjet (and the big, like A1 big) HP that we have at work insist on having (separate) CYMK cartridges fitted, but will print with one or more of CYM dry (but funny colours).

Windows or Office? I'm asking because most of my printing on the cited inkjets is from Golden Software products, mainly Grapher, or from Pythagorus, and I've not encountered it.

My Canon pixma prints just using the black as long as I select to print in b&w

Get new cartridges from stinkyink and they only cost £18 for a full set, as opposed to the £40+ genuine ones.

Been very happy with my wireless printer (MG5550)

Happens to me on both pdf's (acrobat) and office which is pretty much all I print from on Windows 8.1 and 10 (3 different devices) .

We have used a "Chinese copy" of Office (2008??), and Libre Office running on both XP and Win7 computers and had the issue on each; it doesnt happen often, perhaps every 6 months or so. I dont know how to fix it, because SWMBOs PC is in Chinese, she gets her friend in Beijing to remotely access the PC and sort it out.

Yes, even with a full black ink cart fitted, it will insist on printing black by mixing the colours. - so muddy brown text !!

You haven't learned Chinese yet?

Perhaps survey software actually is better than Mickeysh@ft official stuff?

No, never had that happen.

I can speak a bit, but the writing is like the output of a spider thats on crack. I have pretty much given up, although I might have a go with PinYin instead.

Nipped into Argos and picked up late this morning, all up and running ok no problems as yet.

Print quality seems ok as do photos.

Our old Canon had individual cartridges and we found quality suffered if we used non original ones, but as you say there is a big difference in price.

Its quite a novelty being able to sit in the armchair with the laptop and have the printing done some distance away. ( Our now defunct Canon was that old it worked on gas :D )

Thanks for your replies I'll keep my eye on the Black cartridge problem.

Argos- I hope you took them up on the warranty offer. i normally don't bother with this, but on last all in one I did, and was glad I'd done so . My first colour printer, Canon BJC2100 still works, but I only use it in scan mode. Replacement, Epson SXI 130 , got out of warranty ,when it decided to "swallow" paper. Print one sheet, it pulled in 15 or more, and paper got stuck. I'd got an Argos warranty, and after some searching, they found it and printer replaced. Scanner - I still use the olde & trusted BJC ,along with an almost equally ancient cheapo PC World flatbed, that I've found W7 software for( and it even works on W10, as does my olde Canon).

Current printer (EPSON) has both network and wireless capability).

They did offer the extra warranty for £13 which I did not entertain as the printer (Canon pixma mx475) was only £45 and I did not consider this a good investment.

The wife has just has just dug out the reciept for the old defective Canon pixma MP 600 and it was actually 10 years old cost £120 and did not have as many functions as our new Canon at 1/3 of the price.

Just shows how things have progressed, if this lasts half as long I shall be well pleased.

All I've got to do now is flog off the new original cartridges we always kept in reserve for the old model.

That was then .Can't think how old my Canon BJC2100 is. Possibly it would still print ,but I use it as a scanner these days, as it was one of the last printers to let you refill cartridges, but first thing you knew about ink running out was multicoloured print. Next unit was an Epsom SXI 130 - it only lasted a couple of years before trying to take 10 or more sheets at a time. Then it gave up he ghost. Compare that to the work I got out of my Canon. For three years it faithfully printed a double sided colour sheet of a run of 150 pages of a Residents Association magazine at one run a MONTH.

Present printer - EPSON WF 2010. Will run USB /CAT 5 or WIFI.

But for guts- my old Apple Laser writer 12/640 still uses the toner cartridge it came with, and it was second hand before I got the Canon, somewhere around 2000 .Bit slow for one offs, but fast on ulti print jobs in B&W.

For cartridge prices ,i'd have a look on http://www.printercartridges.net/. For wf2010= £6.95 Black or £11.95 for a set.
