Throttle response (150 TDI)

Featured Replies

Afternoon all

Have driven our Superb (150 TDI 4x4 SE L Estate) a few times recently, and I feel the accelerator pedal needs quite a lot of travel before the much response from the engine. The first, say half of pedal travel - not a lot happens.

It's very different from my Yeti or the Mondeo we had before the Superb. It's a little like driving the Yeti with the offroad button pressed, which dulls the throttle response so you're not getting jerky engine response as your feet jar up/down over rough roads.

Might just be me, and a case of getting used to it - but wondered if anyone else thought the same ?

Does it make any difference when you change the driving profile? I thought that sharpens up the throttle more so between Eco and sport?

Only had a quick try, but didn't notice anything immediately obvious. Could give it another try though, as I don't drive the car that often...

My 190 DSG 4x4 seems to be the same. Needs much more throttle than I would expect. 'Sport' helps a bit but not much. I thought that I had been spoiled by the X6 8sp which needs very little input on the loud pedal to make a difference.

The best way around it I have found is to use the paddles (or stick shift) to drop it a gear or two. It may be that the rpm are so low under fully automatic control that the turbo isn't spooled up at all and the engine is at the bottom of the torque curve. Mine seems to like running at 1,000rpm all the time.
