Rear left side light

Featured Replies

Hi there my octavia blackline warning on the maxidot comes up,but the bulbs are fine, has anyone got any ideas. Regards john.

There are four tail lights on the rear for each side, be sure that all four are working.

The top one is a 21W/4W twin filament bulb (single filament 21W on the estate), this is a dual function bulb - brake / tail.

There are then two small W3W (3W) bulbs, one on top of the other that join the top part of the cluster to the bottom part and creates the Skoda 'C' shape.

The bottom bulb is a mirror of the top bulb but is fog / tail.

I didn't think that the two W3W bulbs were monitored by the car, but I could be wrong.

There have been several reports of bulbs that are still working but about to fail causing the warnings on the dash, perhaps the resistance on a worn or failing bulb changes enough to alert the system?

The two smaller side lights were definitely monitored on my car as one blew :)

If all 8 tail lights are working correctly then it's likely one is on it's way out as the system is sensitive enough to detect this. It may only be using half it's original filament causing a change in resistance.

I'd probably leave it until it died completely or try swapping bulbs left/right to isolate the one at fault.

Hi it's my fog light just checked is this easy to get to its a 2012 octavia.

Be aware that there is only one 'active' fog light on the UK spec Octavia's, the offside (drivers side).

The passenger side fog light is not active. It can be done but needs software called VCP (or VCDS will do it on older pre-facelift Octavia's).

So unless no fog lights work it won't be this...

I've located which bulb is faulty,it's one of the top bulbs,it's not one of the ones that are all together. In a line there is four together, they are OK,I've no idea how to get it out,the wires go straight to the back of the bulb .. Any help would be great.

Just pull, they are held into the back of the light cluster with little pressure tabs on the bulb holders.

Twisting them slightly sometimes helps.

You can see them here poking through the holes on my estate...

Remember to get the correct replacement bulbs, W3W.

Thanks mate, when I bang the back of the light cover it comes on,but will give it ago thanks.

That sounds like either a filament has broken and when you bang the cluster it reconnects or that one of the metal connectors on the base of the bulb needs folding out.

As silver says, they are just rubber bulb holders that should pull out but might need a twist first.
