Skoda Octavia Classic Estate Chain or Belt?

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'm Matt - new to this forum and have just purchased my first Skoda. A Skoda Octavia 1.6 FSI Classic Estate petrol with 120k miles on the clock.

I bought my skoda because I undersood that they are known to be reliable and comfortable cars. So far so good,

Although the car has a good service history I had no records of any work after 90k miles. I questioned if the timer belt had been changed and the dealer didnt know. However they agreed to look under the bonnet and see if the belt looked worn to give me a rough idea.

The dealer stated this has been done, but now i'm seeing that the 1.6 FSI petrol engines on the 2008 models actually have a chain? (if correct the dealer didnt look under the bonnet and lied to me..)

Can anyone confirm if its a belt or a chain on my engine?

Many Thanks!

Matt

Welcome to the forum.

The 1.6 fsi has a timing chain. To make doubly sure have a look for the engine code and post back. The code will be on a big sticker on the manual and also in the spare wheel well in the boot.

Welcome!  :sun:

If the last service was done 30,000 miles ago then treat the old girl to some fresh oil and filters and you should get another 120,000 miles out of her!

Oil

Oil Filter

Fuel Filter

Spark Plugs

Air Filter

Pollen Filter

DSG oil (automatic only)

Haldex oil (4x4 only)

Brake fluid (optional)

A local garage should be able to do all this for less than £200 and you'll be happy in the knowledge that it is fully up to date with regards to maintenance..

+1 for chain.
