ESP warning light

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My ESP warning light (skidding car symbol) has switched on and stayed on !

Had computer connected and was told the sensor had failed (£300 to replace by an independent garage) Apparently, on the MK1 Octavia this is "screwed" to the outside of the ABS pump.

Of course with progress ! this is now inside the pump and needs a strip down and brake bleed to replace, instead of a "10 minute job"

Is the price reasonable, or should I shop around ? Will it affect the 4WD system ? I seem to be able to tell that the car is handling a little differently, or is it my imagination !

Any "magic" work-around ? Press any three buttons of your choice while drinking a pint !!?

Regards, and a Merry & trouble free Christmas,

Lloyd

Assuming this is the Tees mk60 problem there is a repair kit available from Skoda for about £180. IIRC replacement does not require bleeding the system.

Your shouldn't handle any differently unless you do something that would normally make the esp kick in.

The repair kit is basically the ABS unit without the electronic control unit attached to it.  This requires removing the ABS unit from the car and splitting the hydraulic system, so it will require bleeding.

Fair enough. I remember reading a how to which didn't mention bleeding the system. I seem to recall it saying you depressed the brake pedal part way before you start which meant you didn't need to bleed it.
