Going back the  replacement point. many years ago I needed a practical 4x4 and the budget yielded a Suzuki Vitara, a practical box on wheels, with off-road capability for what I needed..

Fast forward to the latest version, re-hashed with the fashionable squashed arse, I wouldn't dream of buying it, it's no longer as practical, but it's very fashionable!
