Instrument Cluster/Speedo

Featured Replies

evening all.  As of a couple of days ago my speedo stopped working and wouldn't go over 10mph and seemed to fluctuate.  I first thought it could be the speed sensor but as of today it went up to 20mph and has also stuck there even with the ignition off.  Can anyone shed some light before I go buying bits blind to fix it?

Its a 1.9TDi by the way.

I'm going to say it's the cluster at fault or the wires at the back.

Do you have access to any diagnostic software?

ive taken it out and all of the wires seem to be in order as to what I can see.  I don't unfortunately.  What would be the best to get hold of?

I know people have had problems with the pins in back of them become loose or a dry join etc so have had to split them.

I'm no good with electrics really but I'd use vagcom and check live data from the abs sensors to show they are picking up and all showing the same speed, I'd then look into the speed drive, not sure where it picks up on the vrs but think it's electronic on the gearbox rather than a abs sensor.

If I'd checked those I'd probobly start stripping the clocks down! I never like touching them really since they hold the immobiliser information and don't like being played with!

Possible wait and see what other people say then, I'm sure someone has had this fault before :)

I'm pretty sure but may be corrected that it picks up from the gearbox not the ABS sensor.

Checked the pins on what I beleive it to be and have had the clocks out but not apart yet.

Anymore help from the experts would be appreciated before I go stripping.

Are the clocks linked to the ECU?
