Inspection in x days start car

Featured Replies

I haven't owned the car a year yet (2014 vRS) and I didn't have this on my previous car (monte carlo 2013), whenever I start the car up on the dashboard it says 'Inspection due in 17 days' counting down. I used the trip computer controls and notice that this is a separate thing to a oil change / service..

Do I need to book it into Skoda or shall I wait until end of February and get the Inspection / Service done at the same time?

They had set it on Fixed Servicing and 372 Days.

The car Oil and Filter change can be on Variable Servicing.

Just talk with them and say you are putting the car in for a Service and Oil & Filter change if that is what you are doing and

see if that is OK for your Manufacturers Warranty.

It is because that is in the Manufacturers Service Schedule / Guidelines.

?

How many miles has the car done since new.?

Yeah, may end up doing the service in January and just keep servicing it every year then on. The car is currently on 15200 miles (I picked it up at 8000). Majority of my miles have been joy riding and taking alternative routes to give the car a run since I don't drive it very much during working week.

You can have it done in February if you want, it is not due an Oil change anyway.

It should have left the factory with 5w 30 VW504 00 Long Life Oil and on Variable servicing.

Maybe changed for servicing at the PDI or before you collected the car.

Just being nosey, but

Has it had any Work or Servicing done before you got the car? Anything recorded on the Skoda Dealership system,

receipts /invoices in the Folder?

Was it a Demonstrator at a Dealership or who owned it previously?

Yeah, the oil change is due in 62 days, so guess can wait until February. The car was registered in Portsmouth and was owned by a Doctor according to the v5 registration form. The only work I am aware of is that when I first collected the car the steering pump went so this had to be replaced and a few weeks ago it had to go in for track rods to be replaced as steering was making a weird grinding noise. On a side note I had to change the tyres 3000 miles after owning the car.

In the log book there is no receipts or any history of the car, so not sure how I can find this out? I got a call from Skoda due tomorrow to discuss the inspection and service to see what can be done about it so I guess I could mention?

Maybe just ask the Service Manager or Handler to send a Copy of the Service or Warranty record for your Records.

Since they no longer do a 'Service Book' it is a fair request and one that helpful Skoda CS Managers usually oblige with.

Have fun with it.

Just received a call, as the previous owner had a fixed service plan, they didn't change the car when they had received it at the garage, they will make it variable when I hand it in for its service. As for the inspection they said its nothing to worry about and can be done at the same time as the service but is entirely down to the customer.

Tried to get details of anything else that went wrong previous to March 2015 and they had no records, it is possible that nothing went wrong as he only had the car for 10 months?

Meh

What is prompting the desire to move from fixed to variable service intervals?

The fixed service interval is 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first. Ideal for regular short journeys or if your annual mileage is less than 10,000 miles.

Variable servicing is better suited to higher mileages, mainly motorway use and is geared towards fleet use where keeping servicing costs down to an absolute minimum is important.

If it was my own car I'd be wanting fresh oil at least once a year so fixed would sound more suitable, especially given the concerns over excessive oil consumption on some vRS's.

Exactly.

And then maybe request that you get 5W 40 Full Synthetic VW502 00 Oil in at a Service when changing oil every 10,000 miles or less,

and not the 5W 30 Full Synthetic Long Life III VW504 00

You can use this is you want.

(& do not let the Service Desk tell you that 5W 40 VW502 00 is only Semi Synthetic.)

It is a bit cheaper, but that is not why you are using it when doing Fixed Oil & Filter Services.)

And ask that they have the 'Oil Temp' available to display if you want to be able to.

Fixed Servicing 9,400 miles / 372 Days.
