No Skoda after 8 years!

Featured Replies

Well guys, having been a bit quiet on here lately due to various reasons, I've finally committed treason! No longer a Skoda owner. I first bought my mk1 octavia vrs in 2007, owned that for 8 years up until I bought this beauty in May this year.

2.0 pd vrs 170. Lovely car. However, very quickly it became clear the car wasn't getting on very well with its Dpf! A change of circumstances didn't help either due to changing jobs and a lot of short journeys. I did get the car remapped by Shark performance and mightily impressed i was with it. It was averaging 45mpg which for its performance was very good indeed. It stung me for 2 rear calipers and an exhaust temp sensor! But, the decision was made to sell. Due to the dpf constantly regenning and the sheer size of it ( the wife said it was too big, she's never said that before!! ). So, i ended up with one of these

It's the FR 2.0 tfsi. 50k miles it's like new. Lovely car and just the right size for me now. Obviously not as comfortable as the Octavia, suspension feels quite stiff compared to the Skoda. Quite a sporty car though and clings on in the bends. It sounds better than the diesel as well!! I enjoyed the diesel though, that thump in the back low down was awsesome i still miss that. If my situation had been different I'm sure the dpf issues would have got sorted, but tbh the Leon is just the right size with the correct engine. Let me know what you think.

Very nice -- I've always liked the Leon, having owned 2 of the original 1M models.

Don't feel like you're a traitor -- you're still in the VAG stable! You've basically still got an Octy under the skin, and believe me, you'll get a lot more help on here than you will ever dream of getting on SCN. I know of a few members on here with Seats, purely for that reason, including a good friend who uses Briskoda for information and help about his Toledo (aka Rapid!)

Enjoy that Leon, and steer it clear of the rapidly expanding Lake District!

Thanks a lot buddy. I will be staying on as a Briskoda member ( wether wanted or not!! ) as like you've said it's basically a mk2 underneath. So many helpful people here no way I'll be leaving. Same engine too. Love the Leon now but doing a tip run yestetday with xmas rubbish soon filled the boot the Octavia would've coped no problem. I might get Mark at Brotek to sprinkle his magic map on it in the new year funds depending but tbh it's plenty quick enough for me now i must be getting old!! As for this weather up here, yes it looked like one big lake a few weeks ago it really has been awful. My house was ok thankfully but devasted for the unfortunate ones.

I looked at both a diesel and petrol before buying the vRS instead... a very quick car, loved the bucket seats.. but the ones I viewed just didn't do it for me.. they were around the 50k mileage too but they were a bit tatty inside and out..and not looked after....I looked at one and it was soaking inside behind the drivers seat/rear footwell and the seatbelt was literally mouldy it had been leaking that long... apparently a common problem leaking around the B pillar..

Hope it serves you well... looks lovely BTW :-)

Thanks mate. Yes it is a nice example must be said i feel lucky i found it on this mileage and only 10 miles from me. Mechanic as previous owner very obvious his pride and joy. Good heads up for the water leak too i wasn't aware of that one. I wonder if they suffer the same as the Fabias with rear doors leaking in? My carpet is dry for now mind!! Seat advice on Skoda forum. Classic p#$s taking....
