Headlight Replacement

Featured Replies

Hello,

Incredibly stupid question about to be asked - for dipped beam/high beam and sidelights how many bulbs are required? What spec is required for a 2011 SE model? I was looking at the Philips X-Treme Vision.

Any advice greatly appreciated, I've googled and searchd on here but that just left me more confused!

If its the SE it should have a projector low beam and reflector high beam, but check.

H7 low beam

H7 high beam. (So 4 H7 bulbs all together)

W5W sidelight bulb.

Thanks :)

Sorry for thread jack, I have a 57reg Fabia 3, the headlights have the projector lense, and just have a single h7 bulb for high and low, a solenoid moved the angle up when high beam is selected.

Are these ok for HID kits ? And can they be replaced with later ones that have the black refelcotrs instead of the chrome on mine? I heard there's some coding needed for doing this!

Thanks, Ben

The projector lens with solenoid is fine for HID upgrade. Just get a decent kit. I have always gone for a standard 35w canbus set of ballasts, would recommend 4300k bulbs for the best light, very white not blue and very close to OEM.

No coding necessary for the aftermarket kit, the ballasts should do the job.

My advice, don't touch the black pack lights, they reduce the light output and although aesthetically they look better they just don't perform and are woeful.

One thing only to keep in mind is that you pretty much lose the 'flash' function when the lights are off. They will flash but due to the start up time of HID bulbs they don't get a chance to reach temp and shine bright, flashing the bulbs also reduces the life of the bulb. Saying that mine were in 2 years and never had to replace a bulb.

as above, Jonro's got it covered :)

To add to that though.. i dont think you can just change the lights anyway. i think the bonnet, bumper and wings on the Facelift are different to the Pre-facelift. so the headlight unit wouldnt fit.

This is true, as it is for the fog/drl units too.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to have a play with the adjustment on my headlights, I have some upgraded Phillips bulbs in that help but need to point up abit,

I know it's trail and error without a proper set up, but the drivers side is noticibly low compared to passenger side, if this doesn't do much I'll look into HID Kits :)

I know where the adjusters are for the headlights, and that the one near the centre of the car does height and the one near the outside of the car is left and right, which way do I turn them for what adjustment ?

Thanks, Ben

I have no idea sorry but if you park up facing a wall and mark the beam and then turn the screws you will see which way the lights are going. When I did mine I couldn't get near a wall as I didn't have a drive so I put the wheelie bin in front of the car and measured the distance between the car and bin with a broomstick so it was the same distance each side when I moved the bin to the other lamp.

UPDATE

Just replaced the bulbs, fiddly buggers but not too bad compared to other cars I've seen! Then realised I'd replaced the high beam not the low beam! Genius. I was going to do both but only had the one pair of bulbs to hand xD

Its fiddley, but it can be done.

Once youve done it a few times it gets easier (:

Are they the same fitting as the high beam ones? Will have another pop tomorrow.

It was a stroke of pure genius! I just used the marks to make them both level and raised them both by 1cm, when I did get them checked they were still too low.
