Usual driver door lock problem with remote, plus 2 faulty electric windows.

Featured Replies

Had the Mk1 130 bhp pdi Elegance hatchback (201,000 miles) since new in 2005 (last to be registered apparently), and had the drivers door convenience controller already replaced about 2009 though the drivers door red LED did not light up but I thought it may have dropped down out of sight.

Drove very slowly through a bad flood about 3 weeks ago, plus many small floods since and have often noticed dampness on inside of windows when left for a few hours or so.

Then almost 2 weeks ago used the key in drivers door to convenience-lock the car and close the windows, but I may have accidently pressed the remote lock button at same time as certainly the drivers door lock seemed to click a few times during the 2 seconds to operate the convenience shutting up.

The following day the drivers door only opens with the key though quite stiff - all other doors work fine with remote or key or drivers door lock-button and the LED seems always on but very very faint.  Plus the front passenger window and rear offside passenger windows open and shut by themselves or can be lowered under my control but do not shut, and can only be shut by turning my key in drivers door for two seconds, though for last couple of days the front window seems to have recovered.

Am guessing damp corrosion of the convenience controller again ???

Id be checking the connector within the drivers door hinge where it passes into the main body voa the rubber boot. Corrosion in there courtesy of the flood water may be doing strange things...

All 4 windows work fine by their individual door switches and now it is only the driver's door window switch that does not operate the rear offside passenger window correctly - this is the only window still faulty.

From other reports I checked the sunroof drain pipe in drivers door hinge-way which was/is blocked but not much water has come out so far but will clean it better in daylight, although the passenger outlet had only a little muck and quite a few tablespoons of water (have still to check the two rear drain pipes if I can find them, in or near boot area apparently).

The main flood must have been almost up to the top of the front bumper - twas touch n go - either I risked it or I would be stuck between two floods on the remote bleak side of an overflowing Scottish loch.

Thanks Mac11IRL - I will check the wire loom in drivers door hinge-way more fully in daylight.

The other 3 doors remotely-lock or centrally lock fine so I may be left with a faulty drivers door lock which stops it remotely or centrally-locking - and/or frayed wires in door hinge - and/or water at connector at bottom of drivers window - or a combination. Looks like the door panel is coming off soon !!!

Will also check the connector just inside the car attaching to the convenience module, I think you are suggesting Mac11irl as the blocked sunroof drain pipe may have leaked in that area.- but no water apparently entered the car going through the big flood, though it may well have affected the connector at base of window in the door which I guess is quite low.
