Cooling fan drain on battery

Featured Replies

Hi looking for any help advice re cooling fan which is kicks in of own accord. Happened two months ago then went ok after I disconnected battery. Happened again yesterday but had fully drained battery. Local reputable garage could not diagnose a problem. Have to disconnect battery all the time after using car. Local skoda dealer fully booked for a fortnight!

Could the control module be faulty. Maybe you have water in it causing a short?

Fan switch or the control module. Just unplug the fans for now unlikely to need then this time of year

If the fan is the same set up as other makes of car I've worked on the live to the fans is permanent, and the radiator switch is switching the earth to turn on the fans.

So I've seen it before where the wiring plug onto the radiator switch had got damp in it so was shorting across and turning the fan on randomly.

Might be worth pulling off the connector onto the rad fan switch,it's screwed into the rad below the air intake, and checking for moisture or Corrosion on plug and switch.
