A dip in the engine on start up?

Featured Replies

My Skoda fabia 1.9 td vrs is having a blip on start up, a couple of months ago I changed the camshaft sensor to eradicate the problem of the car cutting out while driving (which it did) but I'm still left with the start up issue. Sometimes it will take 2-3 seconds of the key being turned to start up and then is usually followed by a dip in revs before the engine then comes back to life, all in a matter of seconds, I have changed the glow plugs but there is no change, any common faults people know about? Thanks

I don't know the ins and outs of these cars but; see if a small local garage will plug the car in to see if it throws up any errors, possibly relating to insufficient fuel flow? They won't charge you as much as a dealer and their equipment is often just as good.

Could be a fuel pump issue or maybe blocked fuel filter, or drawing air in through the fuel system.

this should be in the mkI section,

does it do the same on both cold and warm start?

check the black plastic valve on the top of the fuel filter is seated properly and the funny spring clip is holding it tight, as these can allow air in and fuels to drain back to the tank

The dip on the revs happens either hot or cold, but in cold the ignition can take a couple of turns to spark up, sure it's something or nothing but it's a list of things to eliminate first!
