Featured Replies

I really need some help guys this website and users have helped me a lot and can't thank enough but yeah literally sick of these problems now spend God knows how much but this is my last option and chance before really coming across the idea of getting rid which I don't want to as its a lovely car!

Right had this problem since I got the car but only started two weeks after, had the car 6-7 months now but recents it's just been a nightmare! It's the common problem av been reading on the website it's the coolant system problem my worse fears are HG but am hoping not! Anyway when I first started i was filling every two three days maybe a week or two depending but yeah did the block test on the coolant system no signs of leak of visible leak etc so thought I'd keep an eye as I wasn't aware but then months later I was going to Route 66 and a dopey friend of mine that I was with ended up putting petrol in the car £15 about that much didn't start eventually when it did kept filling with diesel and thrashed it on motorway few more not starting up issues when I was there but eventually sorted but noticed the car heater wasn't warming up and since then it never has, so got my timing belt and waterpump changed few months down the line when I needed to thought that will sort everything but no now it's just got worse if I go over 70mph or along them lines the coolant disappears don't know where and the temp gauge now rises aswell until I let the speed come down or heaters on, heaters are cold as owt which is really bugging me out as I can deal with the whole water issue but I just warm heat lol anyway I found in the service and logbook that the previous owner no kind words for him sorry but looked like he changed the head gasket as from what I can remember I seen some HG parts but the paper was hidden discreetly as the car was previously a company car only imagine who it was sold to it wasn't treated well learning this few months down line but anyway I need help I am thinking of buying an engine seen one I can get cheap or get a deal on, mechanically am sound as I have few friends that are mechanics and a friend that has a body shop either way that is not my problem it's the last option I want to take and oh yeah as am typing this the heater comes on warm when it wants to has a mind of its own sometimes. And oh yeah I see steam coming from bonnet opened up and appears to be coming from front near radiator or the fans not sure if that where it's located etc and oh yeah when I open the collar the water etc rises up and yes have checked for air lock so can u ace dudes on here help me out with ur knowledge and if the previous owner is on here can u get in touch reg plate is FL55 YR thanks in advance people's will reply ASAP

And breathe....

OK sounds like it's head off time to me mate.

It's pressurising and airlocking the heater at a guess

Can you try writing this in English rather than flow of consciousness? You are not Jack Kerouac, and he was not writing a car maintenance handbook!

Haha I am pal just a headache I don't need that's all! I have been lucky I have my bro spare car I can use now and again as I have a very good insurance where I can drive anything!

What do u mean head off time ? Like the head has gone because I can only assume from the parts paper I have seen the previous owner must have done it at some point but don't know if they did it correctly!

But have noticed prior that on dry days have seen some water like fluid on the floor from left hand side!

Not yet Jonny it's been on my drive past two weeks or so been driving another car just noticed about the rad today but yeah I just don't want to change radiator if it's HG as if my last option I will replace engine and change radiator if maybe it's that am unsure right now what to do just need some advice

The only time I had a coolant issue with my MK1 fabia, other than the sensor in the expansion tank issue, was the radiator.

It presented similar symptoms to those which you describe, sudden and random loss of coolant.

Speaking to Alistair at UNIT18 today, as my Roomster lost coolant suddenly on Thursday night (same PD engine more or less) it is something to do with the plastic 'ends' getting brittle over time and expanding and contracting at differing rates to the alloy centre section resulting in leeks.

Here's hoping I don't have to add the cost of a replacement radiator to this week's bodyshop bill!!
