Can some part of the Fabia III power steering freeze? We have around -25 today, and SWMBO called and talked about a red steering wheel icon in the cluster, and the steering was very heavy. Can this be something related to the cold, and it will start working once it thaws, or do I need to visit the dealer? Can I break something (even more) if I drive the car to warm it up properly and hope that the ice will be gone?

Case closed. I have a OBDII bluetooth dongle that had shorted in the cold. I removed that one, and now the steering works again. A couple of years ago I had a similar accident, but that time the car would not start at all until I removed the dongle.

Mine did the same the other day, but after 5 minutes of shutdown, we restarted and the power steering worked again, its booked for the dealer on monday, who said that there was a software update for the power steering

Thanks for this information! As I removed the ODB dongle before restarting (after the car had been shut off for ~40 minutes) I am not really sure it was the dongle. I'll will ask the dealer when the car goes in for service next time.
