Inspection in 20days..

Featured Replies

Hello boys and girls my 14 plate vrs is due its inspection soon and was just wondering how much people have been charged by various main dealers& also what do they actually do in the inspection?

I think the Citygo and Fabia attract lower pricing than Skoda's fixed price servicing, I certainly wouldn't be paying the £259.

Be aware that all the items listed for the major service are not always changed, they are only replaced "if needed".

It pays to ask first exactly what you will be getting to work out what you should be paying.

What mileage are you on and what is your annual mileage?

Minor service = oil and oil filter @ £139.

Major service = as above plus pollen, fuel filter (diesel) and air filter and spark plugs (petrol) @ £259.

Sounds like absolute robbery but sadly unavoidable if you want to safeguard your warranty :(

Totally avoidable if you want to protect your Manufacturers Warranty in a EU Free Market.

You go to a none Main Dealer but maybe a VW Specialist (VAT Rgistered) and have the vehicle serviced to the Manufacturers Guidelines / Schedule with OEM parts .

Maybe one that can even do Skoda Warranty work and has all the diagnostic gear and knows how to use it because they are fully trained and qualified VWG Technicians.

You get a proper job done at a reasonable price, or maybe a similar price but done by a qualified technician.

Currently on 11400 do approx 6000 a year

You definitely want to be on fixed then (10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first) rather than variable (up to 20,000 miles or 2 years). This ensures you get fresh oil at least once a year. Oil is the life blood of any engine and turbo.

Your low mileage also means that you won't yet be ready for any of the extra parts listed above under the major service (usually they are required at about 3 years or 60,000 miles).

It all depends on your attitudes towards car maintenance. My car is wholly owned and I plan to keep it for a long time, therefore I like to change the air, fuel and pollen filters more regularly than recommended by Skoda. Each to their own though.

As mentioned you don't need to use a Skoda main dealer to maintain the warranty, you can use an independent as long as they use genuine Skoda parts and fit them according to Skoda's requirements.

One unseen advantage of a full Skoda history however is their attitude towards any gestures of goodwill once the warranty has expired. My Octavia vRS had several thousands of pounds spent on it out of warranty all paid for by Skoda UK, mainly down to my full Skoda main dealer history.

Times change though, given the success of the Skoda brand of late it is rumoured that their attitude towards goodwill has some what reduced.

Here is an idea with a Twincharger.

From the cash money saved from not having Skoda Maindealer rip off Service Charges to get goodwill,

use a 'reasonably priced competent garage' & just be sure you keep your Manufacturers Warranty valid, then when it ends buy the Extended Warranty for not lots of money, and keep it valid.

Then you do not require Goodwill.

Exactly why I go to VASStech, that and I wouldn't trust the dealers with a wheelbarrow. Buy the car from them and that's where it should end until you need warranty work.

spot on. I use a Skoda Independent Specialist. Much cheaper, much better job, Skoda parts still used, warranty still valid

I don't know of any skoda specialists in my area (Halifax)

quick google search pulled this..

Any VAG specialist really. They all use the same engines and transmissions dont they.

A few local reviews on somebody would be nice too.

Each situation is different.

My vRS had close to £5,000 spent on it outside of warranty on goodwill from Skoda UK.

New rear spoiler painted.

Boot lid repaired and resprayed.

New turbo

New injectors

Various sensors

Forced DPF regeneration

Cam timing adjusted

Several diagnostic sessions

Plus a courtesy car for almost 8 weeks in total.

It would have taken some serious savings through non-main dealer servicing to pay for that.

The saving suggestion is to buy an Extended Warranty, not pay for Skoda Main dealers to do repairs because

Skoda Quality Control is pants.

Goodwill on acceptance they Built and sold a lemon it sounds like with your car.

The thing is that not all in the same circumstance come out of it as well as you did, goodwill on a who is prepared to take actions in court,

or just because a Manager allows Goodwill is a ridiculous practice that Skoda & the Volkswagen Group get away with in the UK / EU.

That is the same with many Mk2 Fabia vRS.

They built bad engines and even out of warranty you can get your legal rights.
