Amundsen decimal degrees?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just traded my 2008 Octavia II vRS PD170 Combi with 230,000km on the clock in for a new vRS TDI Combi in race blue. Delighted with it so far! It's quiter, has more toys and definitely feels like an upgrade.

A quick question - I opted for the Amundsen unit for satnav, but here in Ireland we don't use postcodes that it (or any other unit) knows about! So to find a location I am used to looking it up a location on google maps first, and then taking the longitude/latitude from there to enter it on satnav (I was using Garmin up until now). By default google maps gives you this info in decimal degrees rather than degrees, minutes, seconds. Is it possible to change the latitude/longitude input to accept decimal degrees on the Amundsen ?

On Google maps, right click on the place where you want the coordinates for and select What's Here. This will bring up a small window with the decimal coordinates, then click on the coordinates and a big window will open with degrees min sec.

Thanks for that. I stumbled across it yesterday but couldn't get it on the phone app, or maps used on phone browser. You could choose which method to input on the Garmin. I take it it's not an option to change on the Amundsen then?

My Columbus will only accept deg/min/sec so I presume the Amundsen is the same. I cannot get the proper units on the phone either, even if I use the Desktop site on the browser, so it looks like you can only do it on a PC.

Thanks folks, I think I'll resign myself to using google maps on desktop wherever possible. I had a search on some VW forums and they suggest no decimal units supported on the VW equivalent system either. It's too fiddly to be switching between maps and converters on the phone. Or I can use the phone for navigation if I'm stuck.

Some hardcore **** ther lol.  :peek:
