Rattling on startup !

Featured Replies

Hi All, We had an issue with our 1.6 TDi Spaceback the other day, she started it on the drive and it was making a loud rattling noise after a few seconds so didnt go out in it, when I came home it started OK !, I had it ticking over yesterday and at one point there was a rattle which sounded like a loose exhaust ? anybody else had anything similar ? cheers Stuart

is your oil level ok and is it due an oil change?

Its a diesel, they rattle and make noise, especially if it does lots of short journeys, not getting warmed up properly.

As above, most likely just normal diesel rattles.

It is also possible that your exhaust is actually loose. Worth getting under it and making sure none of the retaining clamps are loose/missing, especially towards the manifold.

Had a similar thing with a fiat diesel. No major fault but a loose heat shield next to the exhaust that rattled something awful.
