Rear diff oil 2.0 170 Yeti

Featured Replies

Re diff oil. Just thought I'd post this warning to anyone buying diff oil from main agent. The parts department gave me Haldex oil by mistake even though I specified diff oil only. Good job I checked the label. For my car the part numbers are as follows: haldex oil VG 055 175 A2. Diff oil is KG052145S2. Could someone on this forum please confirm whether the front diff oil needs replacing aswell or does it use the gearbox oil ? Thanks in advance. Bob

Front diff is separate to the gearbox, so yes it can be changed separately.

How much did the diff oil cost you ?

£24.95 for one litre from VW dealer. I assume I need another litre then if the front needs it too. Cheers. Bob

The front diff is in the gearbox. The angle box (aka transfer box) has its own oil but it's a right **** to change.

Ah sorry yes I meant the transfer box.

What would be needed for a DIYer to change the transfer box oil ?

You need some tools, the oil return pipe has to come off the turbo along with the driveshaft and mounting bracket to get into the level plug.
