Superb Sport Grill

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I bought a 2005 Skoda Superb V6 2.8 Elegance 2 days ago.

I love the car... so much!

My previous car was the 2005 Kia Amanti/Opirus for the last few months, and before it a 1998 Audi S8.

It has most of the Audi feeling less the power and the tackyness. The skoda is much more agile and has more rear legroom (which is my top priorities these days)

Power is decent enough, especially when shifting through the tiptronic.:)

My car came with the Skoda tape player, which makes the interiour look poor, so I ordered a VW navigation system which is identical to the Skoda's though eBay. (MFD1, version G). I'm waiting for it to arrive.

Meanwhile, I want to perform the following mods:

* Change the Grille to the Body-colored Sport grill that I've seen on some pics :D

* Change the rims to the 17" 5-spoke skoda ones.

* Change the dash lighting to become Orange. I really hate the Green light :( , especially that the VDO screen in the middle of the dash is Orange.

My problem is that I cannot find the grille anywhere on the net, can someone point me out to a site where I can place an order?

Thank you so much!

I dont know which grill you mean, but milotec and MS design both do grills for the superb. Try searching them on google.

Could you keep informing us about how the changes are going. I would love sat nav on mine too but I have heard so much about losing maxi dot and steering wheel controls that I don't know which way to go about it. I would like to change my dash light colour too so would be very interested to know how that is done. The sport grill does look good but how much!!!!

If you want information on the Sat Nav for the Superb then I suggest you read the following thread. I have just fitted a DX unit to my Superb and as told I lost the steering wheelcontrols and FSI cluster display, not that it matters that much IMO:

How do you intend to get the VW MFD G Version to work in the Superb? It will illuminate red and blue? Won't that look odd?

If you want to change the dashboard lights then I would chat to EddyH, he has done this on his Octavia Estate.

BTW the 17" wheels you talk about are called 'Solid' and I may be getting rid of mine in the summer if you can wait, like in this pic (sorry for nicking this pic again, it's not my motor) LOL!!!:

Thank you all for the support.

The grille is a bit pricy, especially that I would need to buy both upper and lower grid for the the superb look ;)

I took apart the console today only to find out that every single illumination in the superb is LED based. I thought only the LCD screens would be illuminated via LEDs, but no, all are. So, I would have to buy a bunch of LEDs for this project.

The VW sat nav I ordered is red-illuminated, and I like red, so I am going with red all around.

Two questions I have:

1- Where can I buy red automotive LEDs? I couldn't locate any locally.

2- How can I take apart the automatic gear ****? mine has the back covered with a faux-wood insert and the belly is made up of leather. I couldn't find any screws, and lightly prying the parts open yielded no results... I fear that any more pressure would cause permemnant damage. Any hints?

Many thanks again!

If you are after LED's then I would suggest you speak to Chris at the following address and tell him that Baker21 sent you:

[email protected]

He will be able to sort you out with LED's no worries.

As for changing then then like I said, speak to EddyH and he will be able to help you out as he has done this to his Octavia Estate.

Navigation installed, the whole process took little less than 10 minutes.

Lighting on the nav is red, so it does look ugly. I will be changing the whole thing to red once I locate all the LEDs needed.

The upper part of the Maxi dot balcked out, so did the steering wheel control. That is due to incompatible can bus signals. However, there are ways to revive those that I am currently researching.

Once this project is finished, I will be getting the Sport grill and the rims.

Something interesting: why does the word k*n*o*b turns into ****? I suppose it has an alternate bad meaning?

You have the same Sat Nav issue as me then, the FSI cluster and steering wheels controls are not functioning.

I have had mine like that for around a couple of months now and I guess that I am used to it, be interested to see and learn how you get them to work but then I think as I have a DX A unit then it's a little more complicated that your MFD G unit.

Look forward to seeing some pics mate.

My maxidot display had a mind of its own the other day, the radio (top) section was red like an audi, the trip computer part stayed orange but was displaying in Kmh. I like the red display, does any one know if you can chage it.

My maxidot has a mind of its own too-from displaying words and units in german,to not switching to computer mode and permanently displaying "SKODA NAVIGATION SYSTEM" all the time.If you switch the nav unit off then on again it corrects itself.I also have problems with the 6cd changer-sometimes it says "NO DISC" even though there is a disc and in some instances it is even doing it for the disc that is playing,to switching back to radio when I try to change disc.Has this happened to anyone else??and what is the remedy???

Just a thought on the grill.... how about having the chrome body coloured and keeping the existing grill with badge... will look a hell of a lot smarter

I thought that it's just Elegance that gets Satnav as standard?

just the elegance gets sat-nav.

All other superbs now get a new double din headunit though, as pictured in the edition 100:

I am liking these mirrors, I have a set on mine does anyone else have some on their Superb? :)

The mirrors certainly do look good although I think they only work on cars that are dark in colour?

I don't think they would look too clever on my colour but on this colour it looks spot on, carries on the chrome trim feel on the bumpers and doors.
