Should I hide my name on service and repair receipts

Featured Replies

Hi, I've sold my car, the dealer wants all service and repair receipts. Most of them have my name, address and phone number on them, can I remove them before I hand them over ?

Thanks

The V5 will have you name and address on it anyway.

Is it a full Škoda history? if it is they they do not need the receipts, if not then they may want them as proof of service history.

My mate got a phone call recently after part ex-ing his golf, we assume from the paperwork in the car. Nothing bad (for him anyway), the car had been smashed up in trade and wanted to check the condition and spec and if there was any issues before he got rid. My mate had a chat with him, gave him some useful info etc.

What could happen? Worst you'll get is a phone call.

The dealer will get any comeback off the car if there is any, not you.

He might want to call n chat about it though. Which isnt a problem, is it?

Just looking at it from the other side of the fence.

When I bought the vRS I took the details from some of the service receipts and sent the guy a letter (you know, the now dead method of communicating with a pen, paper and a stamp  :D), put all my contact details on the letter and he dropped me an email with his phone number inviting me to give him a call.

He was as curious to know where his beloved car had ended up as I was about it's history. Win, win.

As said by others the V5 will have your details so I would just delete phone numbers off any receipts but other than that I would leave it. Especially if the paperwork was part of the deal e.g you offered all the paperwork as proof of services etc to increase or secure the price you sold it for.

I recently sold my Land Rover which had a folder full, I went through it and removed my bill of sale and let the new owner have the lot as part of the vehicles comprehensive history :)

I sold my Fiesta ST to a dealer and the new owner has just contacted me and I was more than happy to advise him of the cars history. Also helped him feel better in the knowledge that I looked after it during my short ownership.

best one.. is to leave in the 'bill of sale' when its less than the price they bought it for.

Win! :D

If it was dealer serviced, get them to contact the dealer/manufacturer.

Thought it best he didn't see what I paid for it 8years before :)

The only car or Vehicle that I made money on.

Mine wasn't ;)

So thought it best he didn't see what I paid for it 8years before :)

I have had it put in with a few bikes. It's interesting to know. Especially when you buy a bike with 5k on the clock for half the new price.

Makes you feel good about it :D

I bundled mine in with the Octy when I traded in. But I wen't through it and removed all references to card numbers and any recipts that were seperate to invoices.
