Got a dodgy shock mount

Featured Replies

My car has an awful creak when I go over speed bumps and I've been told that the mount/bearing on the front driver side is shot, and have been  quoted ~£100 to source and replace.  Would it be worthwhile looking at a bilstein kit instead? I've always fancied something that would improve the comfort but haven't wanted to cough up ~£500. Now that it's looking like I'm going to have to get a new shock anyway, shall I pay the difference and get a whole new suspension set up?

Is the spring ok?

Sometimes the spring going takes out the top bearing. Not always that easy to spot either.

If you're looking at improved suspension then do it now. Most of the cost is in the labour as new top mounts are around £25 for a good quality brand like SKS. As with anything suspension or brakes replace in pairs on the same axle.

This not a potential console bush, as mine used to creak quite a bit but there wasn't anything wrong with it.

I've been told by my local indy that the bearing/mount is shot.  He can hear it creaking/crunching when it's jacked up and he turns the steering wheel. I can also sometimes hear similar sounds when I turn into junctions at low speeds with lots of steering applied.

So on an otherwise completely OEM setup, is the B12 Pro kit worth the £480 from Germany?

If I were to buy this, could I fit it myself?  Do I need spring tensioners are are the springs already fitted to the shocks?
