LED sidelights (Fronts) - issues

Featured Replies

I've brought 2 pairs of LED sidelights (Ebay). 1 set were advertised as Canbus, error free, the other set were advertised specifically for the Octavia.

Both sets work but only for 5-10 seconds and then they go off.

Anyone had similar before? Or got the details of a set that work (shopping time again.......!!)

TIA.

Kev.

Well I had this and the cheaper ones don't last 2 mins they either fail almost straight away or start flickering :-/

Best off getting some half desent ones

Best off getting some half desent ones

When they've gone off, if I turn the sidelights off for a few seconds and then back on, they come on - and then go off again!!

Any examples of half decent ones? ;-)

i have fizzmo 5 led canbus error free side light bulbs no problems

Did you need the load resistors too?

(Sorry to go on about this but it's really pi55ing me off!!)

How much did you pay for them, Kev?

I purchased off ebay but it is too far back to be in my history for me to show them.

I think I paid somewhere near ten pounds after having one set that weren't any good and decided to stop throwing good money away.

They are on a board (that protrudes forward with probably eight or ten little led's and canbus friendly. I wouldn't mess with ones that need a separate resistor.

You may be able to use the ones you have in your puddle lights, though, if you have them. The ones that were no good for my side lights, work beautifully in my puddle lights, with no canbus or resistors.

Looking at ebay, I may be wrong remembering the type I purchased.

If you have no further info / luck tonight, and I get time tomorrow I will pull one out (no euphemism) and take a pic.

Be good so see the ones you have already purchased.

I must admit, they weren't the most expensive but even so, they should work if advertised as 'canbus, error free' (something to take up with the seller!!)

I went for them as they are an enclosed style, rather than the open PCB type (as Tilt has got) - I thought there might be a risk of moisture issues?

I'll try to post a photo (haven't got an on-line photo account)

Tilt - I was asking about the load resistors as Fizzmo mention them on the listing for their 501 LED's on VW/ Skoda etc...........

Fizzmo ones I have are the open style ones with 5 leds the rsistors are built in , I had the dome style ones already fitted when I bought my car and the bulb warning light was always on .

Just as an update - I've now had these in over a week, no issues so far.

And a really helpful seller too (I cocked up the order!)

Now looking for door lights to match............

Hey billywhiz did you get the 6smd or the 10smd ?

Mine are 10smd but I had an issue last week where both started flickering and then went out. They came on again the following morning but did the same again when I got home from work after a 15 minute commute, I have since replaced them for the same with no issues yet.

After close inspection it looks as though the glue used to bond the LED housing to the stem that sits in the 501 bulb holder has melted shorting out the LED's. The glue is brownish in colour but only affects the bulb when it's hot.

How long have you had them in for billy? Months or years? Maybe not so quality???

Unfortunately he has purchased now, but I have had mine in for a few years now, without a single issue.

I would have to take out and photograph if anyone is still interested to see the type.

These new ones have been in a week or so but my older ones had been in 2 months, maybe I was a little hasty on the 'quality' comment but the colour and brightness are good.

If I get five minutes I will pull one of mine out & photograph it, then if anyone interested................

As stated, have had mine in for ages and no problems.........they are no longer in my purchase history.;;;;;;;;;;A nice colour too imo.

They look very  bright...................Is it camera flash reflection?????????

Also, how long have you had them in for???

No not camera flash, they are a similar colour to my Xenons. they are bright but look very nice behind the difusser.

Phone cameras are not that good at night shots.

They have been in for around 4 months.

Are your xenon's on then? Difficult to tell.

I see you have some DRL's switched on.

There is definitely some lighting reflecting off of the car. You can see it on the number plate and alloys etc.

Not being funny, just trying to get a good idea of genuine brightness of the sidelights, on their own. .

Camera phone  :peek:

For comparison,

Side only

Side and DRL

Side, DRL and Xenon

I find it very hard to get a good photo in the dark
