FL Superb boot question

Featured Replies

Hello,

I nSuperbever thought I'd post in this forum!!

As a long term Octy driver (owned a vRS since 2002) and there being a drought of Octavias in the spec I want, I started looking to the Superb.

I have spied a  2014 1.4TSI hatch I like.  My only concern is the dual boot thing.  Is it reliable?  As the last thing I want is the boot failing when I am trying to put a tent in the car after going away camping!!!  I've read a few instances of the wiring failing, is this a fault across the board or have Skoda improved it?

I suppose in the grand scheme of things it's not a massive issue, however I would like to know real life owner's experiences.

I guess it depends how often you open and close the boot.

I reckon I'm in and out of mine roughly 6 times a week, although 5 times out of those 6 I open in saloon mode only. My Superb is 5 years old and has done 90,000 miles without issue.

If you re opening in full hatchback mode several times a day then you are more likely to have issues.

There are lots and lots of Superb's used as taxi's and the complaints about the boot mechanism and wiring are not exactly common.

Even if you are affected the fix is relatively simple, see here...

I would have thought that opening the boot as full hatchback would reduce the chance of this happening since the wires fail at the saloon boot hinge and using the hatch option doesn't flex the wires at that hinge. Eliminate the problem by getting a Kombi :P...

Well I've put a holding deposit (refundable) on the car in question.  I'm off to test drive on Sunday :D

There's a 2.0 TSi  L & K estate for sale at Caffyns Skoda in Tunbridge Wells.

I could be tempted but my twin-door hasn't cooked it's tailgate wiring yet...............

Mine is a taxi (63 plate FL) It's almost two years old and the boot as you can imagine is opened as both saloon and hatch multiple times nearly every day, and no problems as of yet.

I had a 2009 new, and did have problems with that though.
