P1640 and P1570, lots of warning lights !

Featured Replies

Driving to work this morning and as pulling out of a junction the ABS light and the Slippery Road sign illuminated.

Moments later some bonging and bleeping from the car, initially thought wheel speed sensor.

A little further down the road, the Air bag warning light comes on with a message on the maxidot warning me about the drivers air bag? At this point the dash clock lights (illumination lights) went out.

Thought id pull over and restart the car just in case, just before pulling over the maxidot displayed that the oil pressure was low.

Pulled over, turned car off for a few minutes and it wouldn't start.

AA arrived, cut a long story short gave the P1640 and P1570 fault codes from the ECU. Cars now in the local garage down the road.

Any ideas?

Reading the forum, someone had a similar issue with water ingress into the ECU via the wiring loom.

It was raining last night and this morning.

I've seen similar "Christmas tree" behaviour caused by a loss of alternator charge.

So check battery (if low charge, then I'm on the right lines) first.

Then one-way clutch (if applicable) and sense wire, then alternator output.

After that, then I'm afraid you could be correct.

Don't think its a battery issue, car would and still does turn over with ease, turned it over lots of times with the AA.

Spoke to a friend who's in the trade and has worked the VAG contract in the past in customer assistance (like the AA) and he said he has seen problems with the oil pump causing similar symptoms, so I might need to check the oil pressure which should be about 15- 20 lb.

I have a feeling this is going to be a costly exercise. :(

Well, I've gone through everything today, ECU out, checked wiring etc....

So turned out attention to the clocks due to some faults the car was throwing up on vag com.

Ended up giving the clocks a few wacks to see if it was a dry joint.

Now the maxi dot display is doing some very strange things and is generally unreadable.

So 2 options,

1 send them off for repair, anyone got any reccomendations as to where to send them, past experience etc.....

2 obtain another set of clocks.

If I get another set of clocks, I know I'll have some issues with the immobiliser, anyone know what I'd need to do to programme them to my car?

2008 VRS diesel pre facelift.

Thanks in advance.

Ted.
