Control System For Exhaust Light

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I own a Skoda Yeti S TSI 1.2.  I have a couple of issues that may or may not be connected and would appreciate some advice.

For several weeks now we have had a loud rattling noise that occurs whenever we start the engine (usually if it's particularly cold) it lasts a second or 2 then stops. We had intended on getting it checked, but just assumed it was possibly just one of those things as it was a cold engine.

I've just tried to start the car, it starts, but the 'control system for exhaust' light comes on and stays on along with the 'traction control system' light.  The engine struggles to stay on for about 20 seconds then, after sputtering slightly, cuts out completely.  You can rev it before it cuts out, but very little power seems to be produced and it still cuts out once you take your foot off.

I don't know if these 2 things are connected, but as I search the internet there are several possible explanations for either issue.  I've taken a look at the owners manual, but without any decent mechanical knowledge I can't piece together anything that makes sense.

Can anybody help?

Cheers,

Darren

Sounds like you'll need to get someone to read the fault codes off the car as a starting point to see what the problem or problems are.

1. Timing chain - known issue

2. Plug coils/leads - known issue

get both checked quickly

If these are the issues then:

1.  I've searched online and found a thread on this forum that relates to this issue.  A number of suggestions about there being a recall for the timing chain, but I can't find anything to confirm this.  I've already spoken to Skoda and, as you might expect, they claim that no issues are known about this.  Is there anything on the net to confirm any sort of recall for the timing chains for these engines?

2.  We had another problem with these a few months ago and had to have a couple replaced.  Is this something we can expect to keep happening with this car?

If you are talking about the plug leads the later spec should be OK.

What year is the car

Exhaust sensor fail?

Rattle stops once oil pressure attained, I assume......fairly normal and expected.....make sure it's not an old style 'thick' oil (unlikely).

Is it Skoda UK Customer Services and a Customer Services Manager you spoke with that knows nothing about the issues?

Ask again in writing, and then the Customer Services Manager can ask the Technical Department,

odd that they should need to, seeing how many cases they have already 'Not known about' with 1.2 TSI in various Skoda Models,

and other VW Group 1.2 TSI's.

Maybe not here, but then the TPI's are on the Skoda System at Skoda UK and at Dealerships.

You have to wonder about Skoda UK.

Hi

MeAndMySkodaYeti

I was wondering if you have solved the problem you had regarding the  'control system for exhaust' light as mine has just started doing the same thing. A rattle from the top of the engine and the light has come on.
