Drivers door lock release Bowden cable replacement

Featured Replies

Hi All.

I need to replace the frayed and stretched door catch cable on my Octavia this weekend.

Has anyone managed to replace this without having to remove the door lock? I have visions of messing this up and not being able to open the door at all!

Any hints or tips gratefully received,

Thanks

Not tried, they pop out easy enough when off the car, can imagine it's a finger scraping fiddly job on the car. To be honest it doesn't take too long to get the mech off if you have to. Just need a spline bit, patience with the lock barrel and loosen the regulators to make a bit of room to get it out.

Thanks YellowCar, I will see if I can get pliers or fingers to it first, then resort to patience if no luck!

From when i changed my lock mech, the catch cable had to be hooked on at lock end first, then put in lock, then sort the door pull end and then clip the cable along the door.

If I remember rightly the hook is a bit stepped so you'll have to go in at a bit of an angle, you may find find the hole a bit tricky to find in situ.

Thanks all - giving it a go today so will update.

Right you are goose, trying to think of a Top Gun reference but my memory has failed me once again
