Automatic Transmission Fluid Change - How Much?

Featured Replies

I've got my Mk1 1.9 TDI booked into an independent VAG specialist tomorrow for a variable service and a couple of tyres. I was going to do the service myself but due to time constraints I am going to send it there. I've looked through the service book and can't see anything that relates to the automatic transmission fluid being changed. The car is on 93k so I can only 'assume' it's been done. This is a job I would not attempt myself. Does anybody have an idea of how much it should cost to do a transmission fluid change? I only ask as I have not used this garage before and wanted to see what other people have paid.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I would assume it has not been done - go to a dealer and find out how much fluid you need - then purchase it, these gearboxes generally need the right kind of VW fluid, GL4 or GL5 will not cut it

If it was me, I'd wait and see what sort of a job the garage do on the service if you have not used them before.

An auto box is an incredibly expensive thing to go wrong if the level of skill is not present from the technician.

As a guide I paid just under £200 about 2 years ago to have the oil and filter changed on the father in laws Golf 1.6 auto if that helps, but that was at a transmission specialist.

Well the car came back from the garage this evening. I booked it into a VAG specialist that came very highly recommended. I was very impressed with their level of service. They checked the fluid and said it had been changed previously and did not require topping up at present. I will probably do it within the next 6 months just so I know I've done it. I plan on driving this car for a long time. Thanks for your advice.
