Wireless Charging

Featured Replies

Bear with me, I'm thinking out loud here.

I have a wireless charger on my desk, only cost £12, USB powered, great bit of kit. Charges my Lumia 830 even through it's plastic case.

Tried it through various surfaces - cardboard, fibreboard, plastic - and they all work.

Wondered whether there was enough room to fit it into the Superb cabin anywhere - it's 9cm x 9cm x 0.8cm

Of course I realise that wireless charging comes to the Superb in week 22/2016, but suspect that'll be expensive to retro fit.

That looks like it would fit on the floor of the phone box, you could then run a hidden wire to it if it does.

So in here, under the phone?

Do you have phonebox and could measure?

The charger has a mini USB on the back and there is a USB next to that phonebox.

Just be aware that inductive charging generates an electromagnetic field, so make sure it's not in the immediate vicinity of any other unshielded electrical wiring/components which could result in interference.

phone box is 4" wide and 6" deep

Will this work with iPhone?

Only if you buy a special case with a built in inductive charger coil or else a stick on patch with a coil embedded. Both of these would then plug into the charging port of the phone. Apple hasn't added wireless charging to any of its phones so these are your only options.

IKEA sell wireless charging kits, not sure if they can be used in a vehicle. I didn't pay too much attention to them, as at the time I had the flip S-case on my Galaxy S5 so I wouldn't be able to use it.

Luckily I'm not in the iPhone party - my Lumia has wireless charging and thus would love to just be able to put the phone in the phone box area and have it charge.

For £10 think I may give it a punt when the car arrives. I know this charger works as I have it on my desk.

Good lateral thinking there Coops, I expect that Amazon will be selling a few of these now, unfortunately I'm an iPhone person, however my brother may be able to make use of this.

Well done that man :D

So can we retrofit the wireless charger?

I may go to the dealer to ask if i can get it.

We wanted to ask a question to those who use the phone box in combination with the Samsung s7 edge. Do you know if by chance using the protective film on the back of the phone latter affects the performance of the wireless charging (slowing it down or making it ineffective at worst)?

I put my S7 with silicone cover into the box and it start charging  so just a film should be no problem.
