PCP coming to an end dilemma!?!?

Featured Replies

Well after 2.5 years and covering 47000 miles in her, I'm thinking of changing my Octavia VRS tdi estate to a newer one!

Been to see Skoda and they want £500 deposit and about £30 a month extra from me on a 42 month contract to change to a new VRS estate in white, again with the Diesel engine. That would take my monthly payments to 370 a month which is too much now I have a little one. Free servicing for 3 years again may have swung the deal, but they wanted an extra 550 for that!

They would not budge on this!!!

So my dilemma is what to do-

First option is to keep it for the remaining 12 months and pile on the mileage on this one, and see what deal they can do me then.

Second option is to change it for a Seat Leon 5 door FR with the same 184 Diesel engine in white with black pack. Cheaper car so cheaper monthly payments, even in the estate version. Don't know if anyone on here has or has had one, I would appreciate your thoughts on it.

Thanks,

Dan

I quite like the Leon. So maybe worth a go. Big discounts on them, have a look on broadspeed, approx 20%.

Only you know how much you can afford, but be careful now you have a child also.

Isnt PCP or PCH quite expensive as you do high miles?

I am moving from a Mkii vrs to a Mkiii vrs.

My opinion/suggestions:

- let the PCP run its term, that is what it is designed to do

- do your homework next year, get a free CAP valuation, dealer tried to rubbish this but I stood my ground and got top CAP trade in value

- push for a discount off new car I got 5pc pretty easily

- do not buy life shine and gap etc etc

- stick to make model and colour you want - I was pushed to a car that they wanted to sell, erm no thank you

- dealer wanted £500 deposit, I said I have never paid this before and they would get £200, which they accepted

- think they are pushing for high deposits to offset 0pc finance and deposit contributions

- wait until they have another special event, I'm getting the £500 fuel card

- families are expensive, don't waste all your money on a hunk of metal

Cheers.

In short my mileage went for 40 miles per day on a 15000 a year pcp to 70+ miles a day, hence why I've gone over. I'm now back to 40 miles a day which should stop that happening on my next deal.

Thanks for the advice.

Looks like I'll keep it now till next year, and see what happens then. Let's hope the 0% and loyalty and deposit contribution is still available then! Lol

. I'm now back to 40 miles a day

At 40 miles a day for 5 days a week/every week your mileage is just over 10k/year so PCH a possibility - Some cracking VAG PCH deals around at the moment eg Simpsons Skoda

That's something I didn't consider.

What's the catch on a PCH?

Usually better more desirable models are cheaper - eg Yeti L&K 1.4tsi really cheap. A friend has also got a cracking PCH deal on a new model 1.4 Audi A4 (overall just over £200 month inc vat over 2 years)  - lovely car

You never own & register the car - it's a bit like a very long car hire, you need to carry a letter from the lease company if you take abroad. Near the end of the lease you have to plan it's replacement a few months in advance to account for build times!

You pay your money run the car looking after it, keep an eye on excess mileage though (although not too bad eg 7.2p per mile)- car tax included but you need to maintain / insure it (I'd include a third party GAP myself) although if you run for two years it's not going to need much in the way of servicing

I've currently got a car where I paid a lot less capital and plan to keep a long time (nearly new, end of a model, less desirable etc) but a couple of colleagues have made me aware of some of these great lease deals. One is about to change to his second PCH. Takes the worry out of modern technology failing as you will always be in warranty

  • 2 weeks later...

My 3 year PCP is ending in July and I got the customary call from the dealer to come in and discuss options. I asked for a quote on a straight swap to a new 1.2 TSI SE with metallic paint, they said there is no money in my current Octavia but no negative so I'm starting from even.

They quoted me £260/month with no deposit, I've also been looking at the new Superb so asked for a quote on a 2.0 TDI 150 SE (no metallic paint) and this came out at £250 deposit and £250/month on the same terms as the Octavia...!!....looks like I'm upgrading!!

The better deal on the Superb is mainly due to the extra Skoda finance contribution and it holds it value much better than the Octavia, only problem is they are quoting 6 months delivery on the Superb.

Still deciding what to do.....really tempted by the Superb!

Thats a no brainer isn't it?

Bear in mind though that in 6 months time there should some equity in your Octy, so factor that into the deal...

Thanks...the new Superb is a nicer looking car (sorry!) than the Octy and better spec'd at SE trim....so you're right, no contest.

Just need to convince myself I need a bigger car....the Octy ticks all the boxes on size for me.

As a current Leon mk3 owner I wouldnt say definitely avoid but I would say approach with caution. Mine is 18 months old and Im sick of it, sick of the dealer and sick of SEAT uk. I would recommend going over to seatcupra.net and reading about the problems from honest owners. Ive had niggles with mine from day one, I wont go into the list unlkess you want me to.

I do less than 10k a year, I managed to get rid of my Leon on a trade in (negative equity with the dealer making up the difference) £1k down, £1k contribution, £500 worth of fuel on a 42 month deal for £300 a month including extras for a 2.0tsi VRS.

I nearly bought a Leon Cupra but when I saw the residuals I would have cried if I had bought one. Also I don't think the interior quality is on the same standard as the Octy, stick with Skoda!

On thgat subject, my leon fr has lost over 40% in 17 months, although dealers are selling the same age and model for nearly 15500 loically. The interior of the leon is shockingly vad, recalls for the door cards dont fix them, dash rattles on mine from day one, creaking windows, squeeking door seals, crashing head units, groaning suspension, mystery knock at thge bvack end, boot struts that can't lift the boots own weight, self levelling headlights that dont self level.....

Sounds delightful

Shame as the Leon always seems a nice car, better value Golf.

Had a 1.2 as a hire car and was impressed.

But look at the £5k plus discounts on Broadspeed, that's what's massacres the residuals.

The way in which new cars are sold inevitably means poor residuals I'd guess. It's not like I wasnt expecting a drop but 10k off a 21k car in 18 months is a kick in stones no doubt about it.

This is my 5th Seat, my previous mk2 leon had no problems at all. The MK3 is all fur coat and no knickers with terrible service to back it up. I do feel like Im taking a chance moving to Skoda but general opinion is that the Czechs can knock a car together better than the Spanish!

Hopefully you didn't pay £21k for it.

I think the Czechs do make a better car, but they're working with the same constraints from the German bean counters.

SEATs can be good, our 2011 Ibiza is great, no problems at all.

Unfortunately I paid the going rate for a brand new MK3. The key phrase is 'used to be' good cars. Ive had 6 year old Ibizas with more solid interiors than my brand new mk3. My mk2 was faultless, reading through the forums and avoiding the 'buyers pride' posts they are truly proving themselves to be badly built cars.

The door rattle is classic. Theres a recall for it that literally does nothing to solve the problem, it ends up with people just putting up with it or fixing it themselves... On a brand new car ffs! No wonder the dealer network is so bad when people are willing to accept it so easily!
