replaceing battery

Featured Replies

Tried changing the battery today on the car. Apart from being unable to get the earth wire off the battery is it normal for the alarm to go off even though all the doors are unlocked!

You should always remove the negative connection before the positive connection.

Why wouldn't it come off, did you first slacken off the retaining bolt?

Once it is off try some petroleum jelly to make it easier to remove next time.

Mine don't look like that! They've been changed at some stage before I got the car. The only way I got mine off was to undo the 13mm bolt on the on chssisa then lift the battery out. But the negtavie cable is still attached to the battery though!

I think you'll need to share some pictures with us.

The negative termal is the furtherst one in the photo that Kieran has posted for me. Im a bit of a dinosaw on the computer!

Thats certainly not a standard bolt in the positive terminal, looks like somebody has made a right **** up of changing the battery at some point. The battery terminals and clamps and tapered so they can be prized off with a screwdriver pretty easily if they are still tight (after undoing the pinch bolts obviously)

Yeah. Got the positive one off with a struggle. It involved a hammer a 5 mm allen key and a size 8 spanner!

The negative looks like a 10mm bolt...

Positive looks like Torx, T25?

You would never get it off with a 19mm  :notme:

Its deffently a allan key on the positive with the bolt behind it!

Allan keys fit into most Torx bolts if needed.
