Hard and imprecise gear change

Featured Replies

My Fabia 1,2 2003 has an imprecise gear shift. Especially in third gear.

To get 3. gir I have to be wery precise with the gearshift to not get to 1. go 5. gear.

Centering problem?

Missing oil some place?

Can the problem be the gearshift inside go outside on the gearbox?

I didn't own a 1.2 ever, but the system should be pretty much similar to the other ones, since they all are VW gearboxes, as TMB confirmed me. I'd say to:

1. reset the gear lever linkage(search this forum, there is a detailed DIY guide, youtube also);

2. REPLACE the gearbox oil (pretty easy DIY job, it takes less then an hour to wait for all the old oil to drain, but you need a ramp or a car elevator to do this);

3. drain, refill and bleeed the break fluid(clutch and brakes as well(it's recommended to do this any now and then, the fluid absorbs moisture and it loses it's properties!, might also damage the pipes as well).

I've done this on each and every car I've owned right after I bought thrm. Sometimes it makes a huge difference, sometimes is just maintenance. Hopping you don't have a faulty gearbox synchro, I wish you all the best.

Thanks! I think of that. But the syncromatch i ok. The problem is movements sideways. Normaly the gearshift is parking between 3. and 4. gear.  Her e it is a little stiff, an end  arbitrary between 1. and 2. - 3. and 4. and under 5. position...

May be it is to cold here?
