Noise on full lock

Featured Replies

My cars done 2000 miles and I've never noticed this before today. If the steering is on full lock and I'm moving, there is a funny noise which is only when moving and very similar to something catching a certain part of the wheel.

Anyone had it before?

If it sounds like a kind of ticking/rubbing noise its probablh normal.

The ABS slip rings on these make noise when the wheels are turning at low speeds on full lock. My Mk3 Octavia Elegance and Mk7 GTD both do it.

My Mk2 Octavia vRS did as did my Mk6 Golf GT before that.

I was told you should avoid pushing the wheel to full lock. Was a few years back though.

Putting it on full lock is fine...bumping it too hard against full lock isnt much good for the EPS rack.

Ive had Vauxhalls before where only a small amount of that has led to the rack getting noisy and having to be replaced...not on a VAG car though.

Yeah I've started to notice this too. Just come up to 5k on mine. It sounds more like the motor to me though. It's a hard noise to describe.

I get a noise that sounds like a motor while stationary on full lock. I get the same noise if I turn the steering wheel quickly while manoeuvring at very low speeds. I think it's done it since new. It's only done a couple of thousand miles now.

Have you got electro hydraulic steering like my Fabia VRS has? It will mention it in your manual.

If so, it will mention not to use your steering while stationary.
