asr light coming on and jumpy idling on my octavia vrs 2002

Featured Replies

hey guys im starting to experience some irritating problems with my octavia vrs 2002

i have bought a new original maf and i have mapped my car at stage 3 here in sweden where i live

the car has ran fine for about a month but now the asr light can come on and if i turn the car off and restarts it it goes away

and another irritating problem is that the car sometimes and only sometimes has bad idling its goes up and down on the rpm today the car died on me at a redlight

and there is no fault codes either

anyone knows what can cause this ???

best regards daniel

Mine threw codes up too. Could check wiring to them.

Sounds mad but have you checked the breather hoses? When one of mine split it idled horrifically and cut out on a couple of occasions. Although it did throw a code up.

X2 air ingress through the breathers is quite common on those engines as oil and carbon build up tends to rot through the rubber pipes.

When I had my TT I made a leak detector out of an old baked bean tin and hooked it up to my compressor to slightly pressurize everything and then you can go round and squirt everything with leak detector or soapy water. Mine was like a sieve but once sorted it helped with the slightly jumpy idle.

a throttle body clean and reset can help aswell

okeej i have looked at the hoses and pipes in the engine bay and under the intake manifold but they all seem to be in good condition as far as i can see

ihave already a couple of months ago changed the double hose   crankcase ventilation hose

today the car has ran fine all day

its so irritating that these faults just pops up out of nowhere and only sometimes

the car can run fine all day and then out of nowhere the idling can start jumping or the asr light can pop on

and its not often the idling and the asr light will come on at the same time either
