new to Octavia vRS, Manchester area

Featured Replies

Hi,

Having weighed-up and test-driven the options for a good value, mid-sized car with decent performance and a big boot, I've now purchased a 52 plate Octavia vRS

-I'm now waiting to collect it next week. I currently own a Focus 2.0 Zetec.

MC.

Welcome to Briskoda, you'll find this is a good source of information - when you start tuning it  theres no point in denying it - I swore blind I wouldn't mod my first vRS

Welcome to Briskoda - good choice of car

It's all too easy to be drawn to the slippery slope - I was like you for about the first 2 months then I decided that an already very good car could be improved :D

I really do swear blind that I won't tune the new one when it arrives.......................

Wont be able to afford it !

Re-mapping to 200+ bhp would be good (if it makes much diference in the real world) although insurance would no doubt rocket upwards even more....

It seems to hit 100mph fairly quickly as it is.

There are some other things that are well worth doing BEFORE you get it remapped - that way you'll get the most out of the remap.

I would suggest the following - in no certain order.

  • CAI - Cold Air Intake' date=' something like a carbonio - draws cool air into intake for denser combustion
[*']Free Flow exhaust - something like a Milltek
  • Worth considering a sports Cat as well - makes a huge difference to the way the engine revs
  • Uprated Dump Valve - the standard plastic bosch one is very unreliable
  • And if you want the best - FMIC or Front Mounted Intercooler

Then of course comes the remap - I would suggest someone that does Custom remaps rather than generic - that way you can choose your own settings i.e the way torque is developed and how strong the turbo comes in etc - I found Jabba to be excellent when they did mine - 237bhp from 180 with just Milltec Cat & System & Bailey DV

Hello and Welcome:D

I'm sure a DIY alternative could be found...

* Uprated Dump Valve - the standard plastic bosch one is very unreliable

In what way? Can the standard one be improved?

* And if you want the best - FMIC or Front Mounted Intercooler

They all sound a bit expensive!

Apart from the mapping (presumably a conservative boost-pressure and fuel mix), what are the most restrictive areas of the engine?

Are there are any easy DIY improvements or restrictive parts that might 'fall-off' soon after ownership?

What are the insurance implications of mods on these cars?

Welcome to Briskoda. :D All mods potentially have insurance implications so make sure that you get value for money.

Hello and welcome. I got the VRS Octy and said the same as Skodaw, won't mod it...... yeah right!!! The bug is back after a few weeks and I'm sure you will be the same. Great car too.

Enjoy it.

Hello and welcome to Briskoda.

Don't forget to have a look in the regional section for the Northwest - there is a Cheshire/Derbyshire meet next saturday (17th Dec), and talk of a pre-Xmas drink as well. You would be more than welcome if you fancy a run out in the new car!

Damn, beaten to it. :D

As Andy has said, if you get it in time, you are more than welcome at the meet (although if you want to come anyway and eat as well, I need to know to book the table at the pub :))

Welcome to Briskoda :)

cheers. I now have the car and from my first hour of driving it (through rush-hour traffic) it seems great. Very VW-Audi-esque and deceptively quick. Restraint is going to be required!!!

ps. Are you going to the Cat n' Fiddle or The Leather Smithy?

A cheap mod is to change the air filter to maybe K&N or Green Cotton (plenty of advice on here), makes a surprising difference!!. Welcome to the slippery slope that is Briskoda by the way!!.

Cheers. I was considering a K&N, as I've had them on other cars. With an engine with such potential under the bonnet it'd be rude not to set some of those horses free.

ps. Are you going to the Cat n' Fiddle or The Leather Smithy?
