Ashtray light on VRS

Featured Replies

Removed my ashtray to wrap lid, and there was no wire with light anywhere to be seen.

Did the VRS come standard with no ashtray illumination?

If not is it easy to fit? I can see the plastic lens where the bulb should be.

Thanks

dont think mine ever lit up either .  2007 vrs

I have a 2008 vrs and my ash tray has one can't say seen it light up tho, only recognised it cause changed black ash tray to silver one and had to swap the little unit around, easy to fit I imagine just 2 wires could wire it to cig lighter or light switch,

Thanks, I can see the front ashtray but not any wiring for the light?

There should be a connector for the light, well there is on my 2007 VRS, and it lights up when lights are on.

The ashtray light was about the only thing that worked flawlessly on my vrs :D

My 2012 vRS has no light in either ashtray, nor is the cig-lit illuminated. Not that it's any issue.

My 2012 car is the same because the cigarette ashtrays and lighter were replaced by a "stowage compartment" box (front and rear) and a 12V socket as standard fit.

The "Smoker's Pack" was a £45 factory fitted extra (inc VAT), which restored the previous status quo.

Interestingly the driver's manual describes both variants.

Ok,. seems like mine was without smokers pack - wondered why I did not have ashtray insert.

Your quite correct, though my point was merely to illustrate to absence of lights ;)

That might be another case of sabotage by the dealer -- you will know what I mean when I saw that  .............

Not this time Mike, but I DO know what you mean...

I was just about to post about the "smokers pack".

There is never any smoking allowed in any car I own, so obviously wasn't going to splash out £50 - so I've got a standard AUX without a cigarette lighter and the front compartment is "storage" rather than an ashtray.

I'm confused now, if I have not got smokers pack, should i still have an ashtray with lid but without the insert?

I have a 12v  socket

Would there be any advantage to removing the ashtray insert and replacing it with the storage bin? Does it go deeper into the dash than the insert?

Mike

As a non-smoker I'd say yes, but I can't advise on the fitting thing. Not having the ashtray I don't know how deep that is but the storage bin does hold quite a bit in the way of odds & ends (tho that's relative).
