How to replace cigarette lighter on Octy Vrs...

Featured Replies

Have decided to change my cigarette lighter on my 57 plate on my vrs as it won't charge my phone...

Is it easy job to do ?

Thought it would be easier to ask first before I do some serious damage as it looks like it could be a pain to do !

Or does anybody know what could be wrong with my cigarette lighter as it is still working but churning out some strange voltages...

With nothing plugged in it reading 12v but as soon as I plug my phone in, it won't charge but the after I unplug my phone the reading is 10v, very strange !

Phone, usb charger and leads work in the hgv I drive for work !

Cheers guys

Maybe an obvious thing you have overlooked, but the HGV you drive at work, where the lead works fine, will be 24 volt. Many leads are dual 12/24 volt, but some are not. If your's is a 24 volt lead then it won't work as intended in a 12 volt socket.

Yeah I know what you're saying about the different voltage's 24v...

But I've used the same leads in my car and Hgv with no problems until now...

And its a big problem now as I've managed to change cigarette lighter and it seems it just doesn't have enough oomph to charge anything !

Have tried to charge 3 different phones and its just not working...managed to get my voltage probes into USB charger and its only reading 2 volts...

I have opted to get mine changed by an auto-electrician.

They said it does look slightly corroded on the inside of the unit itself.

Mine is temperamental depending on the plug I use.

Corrosion could be caused by the Octavia known issue for severe condensation. Lots of people have posted about it on here.
