Water flowing noise in side car

Featured Replies

Drove car today went to turned car off sound of water flowing. Bit like when you empty a bath. So I took it for a drive again to see if it would clear. But temp gauge went to 120'c and said coolant tempt ire switch off engine.

Heater feels hot. When heater is running the coolant temp goes down. Then you switch the heater off and the temp goes back up again. Any ideas

Car is a Octavia VRS 2l tdi 2014

If you have had the air con on you can get that sort of noise.

In cold weather if you have the heating on high and you come to a stop for say a few minutes, its normal to see the temperature drop a bit

And also no coolant is going back to the expansion tank bottle via the return pipe.

Water pump may have failed or possibly the thermostat stuck shut

Sounds like the thermostat. If the water pump had failed you probably wouldn't get any heat at the heater matrix as you need the pump the push the water through it.

Either that or the radiator fan isn't kicking in when it should do.

Yea either water pump or thermostat issue. But the sound of flowing water is very load tho. Being recovered tomorrow so we shall see just thought I would post to see if any one has had any issue

Thermostat is a lot easier and cheaper to replace anyway so that would be where i would go first.

Isn't the car under warranty?

If sound was heard when first initially turning ignition on, I would have said fuel was being pumped into system to prime the fuel filter.

I hear it everytime I turn the ignition on, on my old 2005 Fabia VRS diesel.

Does your water level reach the correct level when the engine is cold, in the expansion tank ?

A slow/ lazy thermostat to open, may cause temperature to be higher than normal/ or should be.

Yes it is just thought I would see what people say. I'm a mechanic for Landrover so thought. If people have had a issue about it

The water pump is also a thermostat on the newer diesels and are very prone to failure.

The flowing noise can be heard when car is running and a lot more when car is turned off.

Would that cause a flowing type of noise as well.

I'd worry more about the 120 degrees and lack of water to the expansion tank.

Yea I am but just wondering if it related the water pump is it an electric motor or cam belt driven

Cam belt driven. But there is an aux electric pump.

Cam belt driven. But there is an aux electric pump.

The Aux. pump is just to circulate water for start/stop isn't it

No, the aux pump has been fitted for a fair time, long before start/stop.

Call from garage today thermostic water pump has gone

Thought as much.

I get some flowing noise in the dashboard sometimes when I start the car, I think only in colder weather. I think there is a swimming poll inside the dashboard and the seal lives inside it. No problems with the car though.

what mileage is on the car?

Have you thought about asking them if they are going to replace the timing belt or not. If not it might be worth paying for the parts for them to change while they are doing the job to save labor costs in the future.

Plus if you re-use the belt you are meant to put it back on the way it came off and I would be concerned that they wouldn't bother which could lead to an early failure
