Request a refund - yes / no?!

Hi all,

Long story short - noticed some oil which appeared to be coming from a driveshaft output flange seal. Sent photo to a garage, who confirmed thats what it was and they suggested changing it. Took car in and they changed the seal. 5 months later, noticed more oil forming in the same area. Garage have checked it over (for free), but say it's not the driveshaft seal at all, but some engine oil and to leave it as its a very small amount not even dripping.

Clearly the original £100 i paid for the output shaft was a waste as it wasn't that seal that was leaking.......i am not too bothered but wanted others views!

Thanks

After 5 months for a claim.

I don't think you have a chance.

Oil leeks are tricky as it spreads everywhere. Sometimes where it collects appears to be the place it is leaking as it is more notable there and you thought it was the drive shaft seal yourself too. I would write this off and concentrate more on where is it leaking from.

Thanks - i tend to agree. They said its so minor they wouldn't investigate til it gets worse. It could be valve cover, they also mentioned rear main seal although that is less likely as it does appear to be higher up. Does anyone know if the vacuum pumps leak on these engines typically?

Take it there for its next service.

Mention the incorrect diagnosis, be nice and see if they offer you a bit of discount.
