Odd noise on engine switch off PD 130

Featured Replies

For a few seconds after turning the engine off there's a weird noise hard to describe, almost a bit like a fog horn but not that loud and not as high pitched. BLT engine code, any ideas? Going in for service next week so will mention it to the garage.

Rather than make a new thread does this look like the original turbo? It looks quite 'weathered' but compared to the turbo on my last vRS it looks pretty clean.

I would think on a BLT it's the throttle body cycling after shut down.

Never heard it on my last vRS but that was ASZ engine code. Anyone else had similar on their BLT?

It's normal on BLT, ASZ doesn't have a throttle body.

Cheers, will mention it to the garage next week before the service. Never heard of it before. Fog horn, cow moo type sound!

i'd suggest the throttle body / ASV as well, my BLT makes a similar noise.

and yes, id say just looking at it, thats an original Turbo, ovbiously it could be second hand or just dirty but doesnt look like any of the bolts have been touched in a while anyway.

So is the noise anything to worry about and nothing is likely to fail?

Nothing to worry about no.

It's not your alternator pulley is it? Mine makes some odd noises when I turn the car off.

not the vacumn reservoir/ pump? is it a bit doooooowuppp sounding? higher pitch near the end? that is what my pd100 axr does. pretty sure at least

It doesn't look half as tatty in the pic as the turbo on my last vRS. The original will be a KKK, who makes them is it Borg Warner? I'm wondering if it's a good idea to replace the turbo as a preventive measure rather than wait till it fails as they can blow bits into the engine! Done 121k miles if it's on original so not sure how much life it'll have left. Then again it may have many more miles of life left!

Don't think so, the engine isn't turning over when it makes the noise, it starts a second or two after being shut down.

Not sure! As I said it's like an almost fog horn sound, trying to think of another way to describe it but can't...

If the turbo does go then intercooler will catch most of the fragments. When mine went I cleaned the intercooler out and ran the engine for a minute with the manifolds off to throw and thing out of it
