Travel assist / Speed Limit / Columbus question

Featured Replies

Hi all

Considering coming back to the Skoda fold (4 previous) and have my eye on a superb, likely SE L Executive.

One question - does the Columbus unit display speed limit on the head unit? I realise the travel assist option gives traffic sign recognition and speed limit in the maxi-dot display.

I ask because my wife's Seat Alhambra (64 - plate) which has a basic navigation system - I guess the Seat equivalent of the Amundsen system - has speed limit displayed on the head unit, and if the Colombus as a better unit also has this, then that would be sufficient for me - if not, I guess £80 might be worth spending on the option.

Thanks

I do believe it does, yes, based on map data rather than the camera. My 3-year-old Hyundai also has this so I expect it's a fairly standard feature these days.

Yes the Columbus displays the speed limit.

TSR can also be activated with VCDS (I have activated it on my L&K)

On the Octy it can be displayed on both the Columbus and maxidot.

It uses mapdata for speedlimits. But the camera will pick up lowered speedlimits due to roadworks, etc.

Columbus gets sign info from the camera. Not only speed limit signs, but even signs for no overtaking.

It does. But it mostly displays speedlimits from the mapdata. The only times it displays speedlimits from the camera are when they are lower than the speedlimits in the mapdata.

Bear in mind that speed limits displayed by the car - whether from a camera, or via some satnav database - are never 100% accurate.

Ours has the TSR - most of the time it's right, but it's been wrong on a fair few occasions, so I'd never completely rely on it.
