Power Steering Module

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My power steering light randomly comes on and I obviously lose the power steering on my 2010 Fabia Greenline (1.4tdi). The light may be on for a week then go off for a week etc etc, although saying that it's been on for a few weeks now without going out.  It's just been in for a service and the stealer has quoted £1.2K to fix it. They said it was the power steering control module which has failed. I assume this is part of the power steering pump so would need to replace the lot hence the massive cost?

So if that's the case would you source a reconditioned part or buy one from fleebay? How easy is it to fit and is the part coded so I would need to visit the garage to get it sync'd?

Thanks

Gavin

At 1.2k there having you on, I had my rack done (backstreet garage) and was £250 ish for the rack and 100 ish to fit,

I think the control module and pump are one item, if so I know the pump is easy to change, I know this because to top up the fluid you either take the battery out or take the passanger wheel off and drop the pump off and top it up.

New pumps are under £300 on eurocarparts so I'd say they can't be arsed to fix it and double the prices !

Genuine pump is around £700 so though not cheap in not sure what the rest is.

On skodaspares.com part number: 6R0423156B is on offer at £652.54 or at eurocarparts like I say they are much cheaper, up to you if you want to use genuine vag parts or are happy with non genuine items to be fitted.

Was this quote from a main dealer ? If I were you I'd take it elsewhere and get some quotes, could be worth just topping up the system first, if it's low fluid it might be the rack not the control module/ pump

Thanks for all your advice.  Managed to get the dealer to do it at cost price of £700, so no happy but not the end of the world I guess.
