Crankshaft pulley oil seal 1.4mpi

Featured Replies

Has anyone changed one of these as mine is leaking.  Would appreciate any advice with regards to replacing the oil Seal.

Thanks

Victor

I've changed a few, not on 1.4 MPI specifically but the basic technique is the same no matter what, you need to get the old one out without damaging the crank or the housing, I put self-tapping screws into the seal, 3 or 4 is enough, then a notched pry bar to gently lever each self tapper a bit at a time until the seal pops put, thoroughly clean the crank and the housing, grease up the new seal inside and out then slide into place and gently press it in evenly all the way round with your fingers so it's perfectly aligned, finally very gently tap it into place using a soft flat drift moving all the way round the seal until it's flush with the housing. Wipe excess grease off and reassemble.

Yeah, changed mine on my MPI as it was also leaking. I had to drop the engine slightly at the crank pulley end by removing the top engine mounting bracket and lowering the engine on a jack to be able to get to the crank pulley bolt. To undo the bolt I locked the engine by putting it in 5th gear and held the driveshaft with a pipe wrench to stop it turning. Saved having to remove the starter motor.

Or use a positive stop in the spark plug hole.

Yeah, or you could get someone to press the brakes but I was on my own at the time.

Thanks for your replies.  Can anyone tell me the size of the pulley bolt?, the torque for retightening it and whether you need to put any threadlock on it?

Thanks

Victor

I believe the bolt head is 24mm.

Tightening torque is 100 Nm (74 lbf ft).

Thread lock not specified but I used a little on mine for good measure.

Part number for the oil seal is 047103085
