Drivers door handle not opening

Featured Replies

Hi all

My drivers door handle has stopped opening the said door. The handle will pull out ok but will not release the lock, hence having to climb in the passenger side an open the door from the inside.

Problem occurred last week with a few nights of heavy frost. Oil did not sort the problem.

Any ideas on quick fix or am l looking at new handle, lock etc

Internal or external or both door handles not playing ball?

Just re read the post so only external handle.

What grade is your car, I presume four electric Windows, if so why not use (for the interim) your button to lower the Windows as you unlock the car.

I'm not sure what the lock is like on these cars but on previous models they have a small cable that pulls the lock mechanism to open the door. Thy can sometimes stretch a little meaning you can't pull it far enough to get the door open

Hi

yes Danny 57,  its the External door handle, and agreed with the interim of opening the windows to open the door from the inside. model is a 2009 greenline superb.

Understand what you mean Superb TWM, the cable could need replacing, when the external door handle is pulled out it stays out too, so hence what ever is meant to open the latch has failed and is not pulling back in the handle also.

I guess its a visual inspection first by pulling off the door cart and see from there,

thanks for the replies.

I have the same problem with my Superb MK2 3t, drivers seat. Do anyone know spareparts number for this wire? I assume it's normally the release hatch wire?

I found this, but since it specifically mentiones Superb mk1(only), I would like to know before I order.

Kind regards

Assuming it's like most recent VAG handles, you may be able to set the nipple slightly tighter if it has the plastic serrated end. Too tight means the latch won't close but worth a try?

Torx screw at rear and slide handle from memory?

Hi,

I ended up taking the handle off, by taking the key locking barrel out  (which is easy enough to do, there are some u-tube videos on line that show this)  and from there I discovered that the metal wires that the plastic handle attaches too for releasing the lock had disconnected itself.

I applied a bit of grease, and re-connected it.  all working fine again. It was a problem that occurred in the freezing type weather)

It happened once again since I posted this first in 2016, but carried out the same job and fine again.
